چکیده

Recent research in answer-set programming (ASP) is concerned with the problem of finding faithful transformations of logic programs under the stable semantics. This is in particular relevant in practice when programs with variables are considered, where such transformations play a basic role in (offline) simplifications of logic programs. So far, such transformations of non-ground programs have been considered under the implicit assumption that the domain (i.e., the set of constants of the underlying language) is always suitably extensible. However, this may not be a desired scenario, e.g., if one needs to deal with a fixed number of objects. In this paper, we investigate how an explicit restriction of the domain influences the applicability of program transformations and we study in detail computational aspects for the concepts of tautological rules and rule subsumption. More precisely, we provide a full picture of the complexity to decide whether a non-ground rule is tautological or subsumed by another rule under sev-

Modeling and Reasoning about NTU Games via Answer Set Programming

A compact representation for non-transferable utility games founding on answer set programming is proposed. The representation is fully expressive, in that it can capture all games defined over a finite set of alternatives. Moreover, due to the knowledge representation capabilities of answer set programs, it can easily accommodate the definition of games within a wide range of application domai...

Complexity of Model Checking and Bounded Predicate Arities for Non-ground Answer Set Programming

Answer Set Programming has become a host for expressing knowledge representation problems, which reinforces the interest in efficient methods for computing answer sets of a logic program. While for propositional programs, the complexity of this task has been amply studied and is wellunderstood, less attention has been paid to the case of nonground programs, which is much more important from a K...

Advanced Backjumping Techniques for Rule Instantiations

The interest in the area of non-monotonic reasoning and declarative logic programming is growing rapidly after the recent development of a number of Answer Set Programming (ASP) systems. The logic-based languages supported by such systems are rich enough to represent in a natural and declarative way a large number of problems from different domains. Nevertheless, the computation of the answer s...

Stable Models for Nonmonotonic Existential Rules

In this work, we consider function-free existential rules extended with nonmonotonic negation under a stable model semantics. We present new acyclicity and stratification conditions that identify a large class of rule sets having finite, unique stable models, and we show how the addition of constraints on the input facts can further extend this class. Checking these conditions is computationall...

Equivalences in Answer-Set Programming by Countermodels in the Logic of Here-and-There

In Answer-Set Programming different notions of equivalence, such as the prominent notions of strong and uniform equivalence, have been studied and characterized by various selections of models in the logic of Here-and-There (HT). For uniform equivalence however, correct characterizations in terms of HTmodels can only be obtained for finite theories, respectively programs. In this paper, we show...
